An older form of IVF has helped women who had given up hope of having their own genetic children become mothers after all.
The women, who were close to menopause, had been told their only chance was to use donor eggs, a method that would have meant their child had someone else’s genes.
Instead, doctors tried a drug-free or low-drug IVF technique, similar to the one used in the earliest days of IVF.

Anne-France Rix says eating foods that contain phyto-oestrogens may help stabilise a woman’s oestrogen levels.
Fat cells make oestrogen, so overweight women may have excess levels of the hormone.
This can inhibit production of the follicle-stimulating hormone and the luteinising hormone.
‘These are the hormones produced at the start of the menstrual cycle critical for the growth and release of an egg at ovulation,’ she says.

Drinking two cups of tea daily may help increase a woman's chances of becoming pregnant, a new study has revealed.
It found women were 27 per cent more likely to become pregnant if they regularly drank tea compared with those who did not, the Daily Mail reported.
On the other hand, the same research also revealed that consuming two cola-style fizzy drinks daily apparently reduces a woman's prospects of conceiving - and it makes no difference if the cola is a diet or sugary version.

Green Tea in the Woman's World - Green Tea and Fertility
by Vida C. Marcele
-- Water is the number one drink in the world, but tea is the second most popular. At the rate that green tea is going, it may become the most often drunk of all the teas.
The antioxidants that green tea provides have helped increase the popularity of green tea in North America and around the world.
New studies of the medicinal benefits of green tea and a focus in American society on being healthier and fighting obesity has led to a surge in popularity of green tea.
In addition, the aging baby boomers are focusing on being healthy later in life and looking for ways to prevent common health problems like heart disease and cancer.
Today the question is: what is green tea's role in the woman's world? What does green tea do for fertility levels?
Should a pregnant woman drink more green tea in order to be healthier during the term of the pregnancy? What about when she is breastfeeding?

In vitro maturation or IVM is a new IVF procedure which does not use medications to stimulate the ovaries. Immature eggs are harvested from women's ovaries without stimulation.
The eggs are matured in the laboratory and then fertilized and transferred as they are with IVF. Infertility Solutions, P.C. has been providing IVM to patients for two years.
For the calendar year 2011, they report an ongoing pregnancy rate of 43.8% for IVM cycle starts in women below age 35.
The first IVM baby in this region was conceived at Infertility Solutions in January 2011.
Dr. Bruce I. Rose, the medical director of Infertility Solutions, P.C., reports that "Our IVM program continues to evolve and I believe it is getting better. For example, last year we had a 13% cycle cancellation rate, but this year there were no cycle cancellations. All patients who started an IVM cycle had a chance of conceiving."

Fatty diets may be associated with reduced semen quality, according to a study published Wednesday in the European reproductive medicine journal Human Reproduction.
In a study of 99 U.S. men, researchers found an association between high total fat intake and lower total sperm count and concentration. It also found that men who ate more omega-3 fats (often found in fish and plant oils) had better formed sperm than men who ate less of these types of fats.

So-called “bad” fats lowered both sperm count and quality, researchers found. But men whose diets were rich in omega-3 fatty acids – “good” fats found in fish and plant oils – had more swimmers, Time reports.

If you and your partner are one of millions of couples worldwide grappling with a diagnosis of "Unexplained In-fertility" then you already know how frustrating this can be. In-fertility is a complex condition which can have many causes. A growing body of evidence has begun to shed light on a new diagnosis of unexplained in-fertility, one that may have never occurred to you: Food intolerance.
For those with food intolerances, eating products rich in substances they are intolerant to; for example gluten, rye, wheat or barley ignites an immunologic response that causes the body to produce immunoglobulins and toxins. It is considered that these toxins could affect ovulation, whilst some are thought to cause implantation failures or recurrent miscarriages. Food intolerance in males is thought to affect sperm production and quality.
DuoFertility has recently teamed up with a leading laboratory based in Cambridge that specialises in food intolerance testing. The test costs £75.00, and they are offering you a 30% introductory discount, which is valid until 31st March 2012. To receive this discount, use the following coupon code DUOFIT30 in the box during checkout.
The test is a home-kit, allowing quick and dependable results that can display a number of intolerances, so you can implement any dietary changes sooner rather than later.

This is the only published work that explains in layman's terms, the exercises that you need to do in order to improve fertility, how to boost sperm motility, your PCOS diet, how to deal with a luteal phase and what to do when dealing with endometriosis.

Two women who are having trouble getting pregnant may both have the condition, but it can manifest itself very differently.
One woman may have abdominal pain, lower back pain, pain with intercourse, irregular bleeding, or diarrhea and constipation, while another may have no symptoms.

Compared with men of normal weight, overweight and obese men were more likely to have low sperm count, or not have any viable sperm, researchers in France found.
"These data strongly suggest that excess body weight affects sperm production," the researchers wrote in their conclusion.
They found that among men who were normal weight, 24 percent had a low sperm count and 2.6 percent had no viable sperm. Among the overweight men, 25.6 percent had a low sperm count and 4.7 percent had no viable sperm. Of the men who were obese, 32.4 percent had a low sperm count and 6.9 percent had no viable sperm.

TODAY'S BOOK SUGGESTION:
Test Tubes and Testosterone (Male Infertility)
by Michael Saunders
-- What do you need to make a baby? A willing partner? A good sense of timing?
Some wine maybe? A nice meal and some amorous music? Not always.
There are times when all the romance (and luck) just simply will not do.
In those times, what you need is a specimen pot, a heap of drugs, so many ultra-sound scans that your wife or partner begins to glow in the dark and an unfeasibly large amount of tea.
Providing a rare yet enlightening male perspective on the world of IVF,
Test tubes and testosteroneis one man's experience of infertility and the IVF journey he embarked on with his wife in order to start a family.
Told with humour, wit and insight, this book sheds light on issues that can be hard to discuss even with the closest of friends or relatives, making it a valuable book for anyone contemplating or going through IVF.
