UK moves to extend free IVF to women up to 42
Advocates for infertility patients say Ontario should follow the lead of Britain, where a powerful health advisory agency recommended on Tuesday that the U.K. extend free fertility treatments to women up until the age of 42 and to same-sex couples.

The British health system usually pays for up to three cycles of IVF for couples who have been trying to get pregnant for at least three years. Many government-funded clinics already treat gay and lesbian couples, but the recommendations now make that explicit, though they are not binding.

Adam Balen, chairman of the British Fertility Society, said the new draft guidelines recognized the importance of treating in-fertility, citing the psychological harm it can cause. “No one who stands a reasonable chance at conception should be denied the opportunity,” he said in a statement. “These (new) guidelines outline how that can be achieved.”

-- Endometriosis can disrupt women's lives. It is responsible for chronic, sometimes crippling pain, hundreds of thousands of missed work hours, and in its most extreme cases, infertility.

There is hope! Thomas L. Lyons, M.D., whose philosophy is to treat the patient, not the disease, has developed leading edge surgical techniques to address endometriosis.

Dr. Lyons demystifies this puzzling disease, covering issues from fertility to dietary concerns, alternative treatments to surgical options but the main focus is on the key issue of pain management for this potentially debilitating disease.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
