Affordable Fertility Program
FREDERICK, MD - With the poor economy, It's hard enough to be able to afford just the basic necessities. But it's even harder on couples who want to have children but can't. Now there's hope. A local fertility center is giving women the option to share an egg donor and split the cost.
While the program isn't new, the number of women trying to get pregnant through it is. Shady Grove Fertility Center has seen a 300% increase in participants, and they're not just in the Four State Region, they're coming from all over the world.
Here's how it works: If there's one donor to one recipient, it will cost $52,000. If there's one donor to two recipients, it will cost $37,000. If there's one donor to three recipients, it will cost $29,000, which is the most economically friendly program.
"I just get kind of choked up thinking about it,” says Dr. Melissa Esposito with the Shady Grove Fertility Center. “I think a lot of people have this stereotypical feeling that a lot of patients who do donor egg are older patients who waited a while to have children, but that’s not always the case."
Those who choose participate in the program have a sixty percent chance of getting pregnant.
Another trend the fertility center is seeing during these hard times is more and more women who are choosing to sell their eggs.
